THE BEST DISREGARDED BASIC NEED
Well, the debate concerning the notion of time is a bit fiddly. If we agree with Scientist that time implies change and again if we agree with Heraclitus that everything is in the state of flux, we cannot manage time but ourselves. Given a chance, like Abraham Maslow I would include Time in the Basic Needs. For anyone who wish to survive in this cosmos, the notion of self-management has to be in his/her mind. Time is a fundamental requirement when it comes to the matter of Organizing and Planning on the activities. In most of the Companies and Higher Institutions, many don’t care when an hour is unexploited but it is a concern of all when the salaries are delayed.
The success of any company or institution is determined by self-management/time management. For instance, the students who knows how to manage their time while in Campus, don’t struggle when it comes to Career Choice. It becomes easy to choose either to specialize in Science or in Arts. Certain basic skills are required in self-management. First, having the schedule for the activities of the day. It is disappointing when one wakes up and he/she does not have any plan for the day. One end up doing anything that comes around. Such people are easily manipulated by those who have their schedule. We need always to have a list on what we expect to do during the day. This is one sing that we have a purpose in life.
We are living in the world of priorities. Sometimes I suppose that the Cosmos is full of poor people because no one cared about the priorities. In any action, one should ask himself/herself the following; Whatever I am doing, Is it Urgent? Is it Important? Is it Necessary? To arrive at this point, one needs to have goals. It is unfortunate that in many of the companies or higher institutions, the goals are set but everyday activities sometimes do not reflect on the goals. In this kind of operations, the quality of success is very low. Any company or institution that deviates from the goals is a clear sign there is no evaluation in the drama. Successful companies and institutions always gather for weekly evaluation so as to scrutinize their efforts. In the beginning of the week as the job get into progress, all are aware of areas of concern.
In Higher learning Institutions, multitasking is one of the problematic elements. The students wish to do and experience everything and at the end one end up not committing into any. As a result, procrastination becomes the common phenomena. It is always embarrassing to encounter cases of students not submitting the assignments. Going beyond the assignments we will ask ourselves; can such an individual be entrusted to manage a company or any institutions? The students focus more on the exams forgetting that after the graduation what matters a lot is what one can do and not what one scored. In that regard, education should be aimed at preparing the learners for life and not examination purposes. The society need individual who can manage themselves even before managing others. This calls for proper acquiring of time and self-management skills. It is unfortunate that we have graduates of First Class but the world has not yet encountered their contributions.
We need time management on order to participate in various activities. Time spent in doing body exercises, spending time with friends and being with the self is worth of praise. However, we need to appreciate what we manage to do and agree that it is impossible for everything to be done. Finally, it is significant to recognize that behind every success there is a human being. The interaction with the other human beings then matters a lot.
