THE NATURE OF GOD

Thomas Aquinas one of the great theologians asserted that from what is observed logically, there must be an unmoved mover. This was a justification of what was earlier put across by Aristotle, the philosopher. For the believers, this is what we refer to as God but of course, different religions give him different titles. Bearing in mind that we have atheists, Agnostics, and pagans, this reflection focuses on the believers.  In the world of today, the problematic element is on the nature of God. Different ministers have tried to elaborate on this notion but still, the level of understanding is the same. To understand the nature of God both in the New and Old Testament, one needs a historical, philosophical and theological eye. However, divine illumination surpasses the mentioned three. The danger in today’s world is that the understanding of God has been based more on emotional circles and not intellectual.

A RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE

History tells us that human dignity has not been always in the forefront. It is only in 1945 after the II world war when the United Nation publicly proclaimed on the necessity of human dignity. Generally, human rights and human dignity mostly seem not to have a big distinction but as far as the definition of terms is a concern, we will have to agree that human rights are derived from human dignity.  Philosophically speaking, one will have to ask on what it entails to be a human being. In the history of Philosophy, we come across Fredrick Hegel who seems not to include African in the world of intellectuals.

In any forum, what makes people adhere to the information delivered is the clarification of terms. Failure to this the audience only guess on what is being addressed the and all end up having a different understanding. Elaborating on the theme, philosophy of life refers to an inimitable manner of living or acting. This is what differentiates one man from another.  One of the reasons why people get bored and even commit suicide is due to the absence of a philosophy of life. A majority have not yet learned on how to exist as individuals.

THE AFRICAN DEMOCRACY

Generally, democracy is understood as the government of the people for the people and by the people. This is to say that however sophisticated or illiterate the leaders may be, they are to work for the people. In some democratic countries leaders are elected through the secrets ballot and as far as it is 50+1 all are to adhere to the voice of the majority.  Rene Descartes, father of modern philosophy once said that his doubt was proof of his existence. In my case, I have a doubt with democracy and more especially in Africa as a continent. First, the majority who engages in this process of 50+1 do it blindly. This notion of blindness is not limited to Africans but the who world at large. As far as my exercise to democracy is a concern, in African democracy is always associated with Tribes or party affiliations. No one cares about the eligibility of the candidates. Proper marriage could be defined as a union between two people, that is a man and a woman. In the scripture, it is stipulated that both will leave their family and make a union whereby they are no longer two but one.  It is indisputable that the view of marriage in our contemporary world has drastically changed. Earlier, love was the key to any kind of marriage but unfortunately, nowadays others factors such as education and income have changed the whole idea. A lady from a rich family is eagerly looking and waiting for a man from a rich family and vice versa. This implies that in one way or another, marriage has lost its meaning.
